28th Annual Turkey Trot Brings Record Crowd and Funds Raised

Another gorgeous day greeted 623 runners and walkers at this year’s Delray Beach Turkey Trot as they celebrated their 28th year.  According to Danielle Beardsley from the Parks and Recreation Department this year’s event built on past successes.  “Last year we had a record number of participants and this year we had 100 more.  It was very successful and we had a great turnout.  And best of all, we raised an estimated $3,000  for the Keith Straghn Foundation, which was again, more  than last year and we collected lots of canned goods which also go to the Foundation.”

The reputation of this annual fundraising event has grown over the years, and the route along A1A certainly gives the race a unique feel.  “We received great feedback from the runners and walkers and we even had one person come in from North Carolina just for the event—he said the view along A1A was spectacular and a view he had never witnessed before.”

Danielle went on to say that the success the event has achieved results from a team effort.  “From the City of Delray, the Police and Fire Departments, Parks and Rec, and Streets everyone does a wonderful job.  Plus our great sponsors really help us drive awareness and participation.”

Thanks again to everyone who supported this event, and be sure to mark your calendar and get ready to participate next year.
