Get Your Tickets Now—Sellout Expected
By the time foot meet leather this Friday night at 8:00pm at FAU Stadium we will have already endured months of stories, media hype, rumors, questions, old news etc. about Coach Kiffin and his college and pro football history. Last Chance U., “consulting” with former Baylor Head Coach Art Briles, and recent player transfers into the Owl program are just some of the most recent mumblings on social and other media.
Can we just play some football?
The Owls will meet the Midshipmen of Navy Friday night at FAU stadium, a great way to usher in the new Kiffin era. Navy, who has won an average of nine games a season over the last 5 seasons will bring their explosive triple-option offense to town. Our Owls, who are coming off a 3-9 season (actually 3 consecutive 3-9 seasons under Charlie Partridge) are going to have their hands full.
But, keep in mind this will be a very different Owl football team, on both sides of the ball. We have 14 starters coming back plus some transfers that will make an impact, including former Florida State QB DeAndre Johnson.
It’s a well-known fact that Lane is an offensive coaching stud and called “an offensive genius” by some, with huge success stories from Tennessee, So Cal, and Alabama to prove it. His brother Chris was brought in from Ole Miss to run the “D”. The staff is rounded out by coaches that came from strong D-1 programs like Alabama, USC, UCF, USF, and Baylor. All this bodes well for this year’s team.
Will the Owls have a shot this Friday night? Yes. They are not favored to win, obviously, but funny things happen. A big play here, a turnover there and things could get real interesting. Coach Kiffin, his coaching staff and the players have put in the work to get ready for the season opener. Come support your Owls on Friday night (It’s a RED OUT)
