The Scoop, Schmear and Dough on Bagels in Boca

By Haley Dockendorff

If you’re a Florida native, you might not understand the undeniable craving for a bacon, egg and cheese on a freshly baked bagel like those of the transplants from up north (like me — but I won’t tell if you don’t).  Once you’ve had that delicious, home-baked flavor of a bagel paired with greasy bacon and melty cheese, nothing can satisfy the craving except for that alone. We set out on the hunt for the best bagels in Boca Raton, and we put together a list of the ones we think take the cake.

2nd Street Bagel and Deli

Located right in the heart of Boca Raton at Mizner Park, 2nd Street Bagel and Deli offers a small-town deli vibe where you can get just about any breakfast food you could think of. Their menu ranges from bagels by the dozen to breakfast sandwiches to pancakes and more. Like most delis, they have a large case that displays freshly made schmears, meats and toppings for your breakfast. They make a mean bacon, egg and cheese if you’re craving that greasy sandwich.

Boca Bagel Bar

This might be the most convenient place for you on our list because it has two locations! Their new location in Royal Palm Place next to The Standard is now open, and their original location is off Federal Highway near Spanish River. This family owned deli brings over 35 years of New York/New Jersey experience to its South Florida customers, and it shows with its fresh bagels and spreads on display daily. Don’t overlook their massive selection of sandwiches and wraps either!

Flakowitz Bagel Inn

This New York and Jewish-style deli has been a staple in Boca since 1992. They offer classic breakfast dishes and even more classic bagels, baking them fresh the old-fashioned way.  They pride themselves on the “World’s Best Egg Sandwich” and offer a wide variety of spreads you can get on your bagel as well as to-go.

Long Island Bagel and Deli

I can almost hear the exaggerated o’s and a’s when I think about this place. Located in West Boca, this place offers every traditional New York breakfast there is. Their bagels are even hand-rolled New York-style water bagels, made fresh daily. They also offer catering!

Bagel City South

This place is also toward West Boca but is the only place in South Florida with their proclaimed “Zlotnick” recipe, passed down in their family business for 142 years and going all the way back to Ukraine. With indoor and outdoor seating, you can enjoy their case of daily baked goods and fresh baskets with ease. It’s the perfect small-town deli feel that we all know and miss.

Bagel Works

Located on Glades Road, this place might be convenient for you and your morning commute. Bagel Works is a self-proclaimed bagel institution in Boca Raton, offering freshly baked bagels to its loyal customers. They are famous for their tuna. However, they whip up a mouthwatering breakfast sandwich, too. They bake their bagels on-premises and have a different selection of flavors daily.
