Pour it up

By Jessica Tzikas

If you love a good cocktail, a craft cocktail may be the way to go. Similar to a traditional cocktail, the craft alternative takes things a step further by adding the freshest ingredients and a bit more skill to create the ultimate drink. Lucky for us, we don’t have to go very far to find them — here’s where you can get a craft cocktail in Boynton Beach.

Driftwood

At Driftwood, handcrafted cocktails and locally sourced food is the backbone of their thriving business. Their menu, which features everything from shrimp and grits to steak tartare, is enjoyed best with a craft cocktail by its side. Their signature cocktails take the classics up a notch, adding ingredients like walnut bitters, blackberry habanero shrubs, and almond cream. If you want to feel like you are on vacation (or, if you actually are), order their Pooch Punch with Jamaican rum, hibiscus, lime and pineapple. If you need a pick-me-up, order the Blackstrap, made with blackrum, pineapple, lime, and the best part, coffee bitters.

Sweetwater

If you want one of the best cocktails around, you have to try Sweetwater. Not only are they the first whiskey bar in the entire state, they have also perfected the cocktail lounge concept, bringing a New York City staple to South Florida. All of their cocktails are created to perfection and with a rotating, seasonal list, you can try something new each visit. This spring, try the Fruit of My Womb, with vodka, sake, passion fruit, lemon, vanilla yogurt, and raspberry. If you like something darker, consider the Kiss with a Fist, which has rye whiskey, amaro, honey and Munyons Paw Paw liqueur.

The Butcher and the Bar

A full-service butcher shop and daily changing menu isn’t the only thing bringing locals and visitors — not to mention, Guy Fieri, who recently featured them on “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” — into The Butcher and the Bar. Their menu of craft cocktails is best enjoyed while listening to their selection of vinyl records and eating an order of their signature bar nuts or pimento cheese. And while the menu changes daily, cocktails included, with so many options — they have over 80 different gins on hand — you can be sure to find something you love.
