Restaurants Where Children Can be Seen and Heard

By Jessica Tzikas

We all know kids aren’t the type to sleep in. Instead of trying to keep your little ones entertained in the house, consider taking them to a local breakfast spot that will not only satiate your need for good food and a warm cup of coffee, but will also allow you to actually enjoy that cup of coffee, even with your kids in tow. From attached playgrounds to mini golf courses, these are the best kid-friendly breakfast spots in Palm Beach County.

Celis Juice is known for their delicious protein-packed smoothies, fresh acai bowls, and breakfast burritos – not to mention, their bright and inviting atmosphere. And while the juice bar is known to attract fitness gurus (you can check out the brand’s own running community group, the Celis Run Club), it is also an ideal spot for kids. You can count on your little ones to not only enjoy, but actually finish, their PB&J smoothie, which is packed with almond milk, strawberries, blueberries, and peanut butter. To take things a step further, Celis Juice also offers free popsicles and coloring books for kids to enjoy so you can finish your smoothie, too.

WILLY Cafe

For many Boynton Beach locals, WILLY Cafe has long been a hidden gem. Not only does the team know how to make a mean smoothie and a delicious cup of iced coffee (the French toast latte is a must), but in the back of the beachy storefront is a full play area for kids, complete with mini play structures and toys that will keep your toddler entertained. Plus, once you and the kids are done enjoying egg-and-cheese sandwiches and fresh-baked brownies, you can drive about two minutes down the road to the Schoolhouse Children’s Museum & Learning Center for a full day of kid-friendly fun.

Juan’s Marketplace

Juan’s Marketplace, located in Wellington, may be a bit of a trek for most of our readers, but we can assure you, the drive is worth it. The outdoor cafe is located inside the Polo Club, but is open to the public year-round, weather permitting. The adorable spot has a ton of shaded areas and full table-service, offering everything from eggs Benedict to avocado and burrata toast. But the delicious food is not even the best part. Juan’s Marketplace is a kid-friendly haven, with a full playground that you can see from any table – yes, that means you can sit and eat and keep a good eye on your kids. Plus, with such family-friendly vibes, the entire place is very easy going, so you don’t have to stress about surprise tantrums or picky eaters.

Howley's in West Palm Beach, Florida. Taken from the front corner of the restaurant, the photo shows the greenery that surrounds the retro building, along with the mini golf green located outside.

Howley’s

If you miss the days of good, diner cooking, you’ll want to check out Howley’s, a 1950’s diner that was bought by Subculture Group. Located on Dixie Highway in West Palm Beach, the breakfast at Howley’s is always made fresh and whether you build your own omelet or order Momma’s hot cakes, you can rest easy knowing it will come out hot and delicious. And while the microwave-free restaurant may take a bit longer to cook your food, you don’t have to leave your kid behind for this meal. Howley’s has a ton of funky decor and 1950’s vibes that will keep the kids entertained, not to mention a (very) mini golf course right out front where kids can play while they wait for their scrambled eggs or classic French toast.

While some coffee shops have a pretentious air to them, Bunk House has the exact opposite. Upon arrival, you’ll instantly pick up on the relaxed, calming vibes of the place, allowing you to ease into your morning regardless of the chaos your kids created before you left the house. You’ll find a ton of options for yourself, like their popular bagel sandwich topped with guacamole, spinach, tomato and cream cheese, or one of their delicious fruit smoothies or smoothie bowls, but you’ll also be pleased to find a menu just for the kids, too. Their kid-size strawberry banana smoothie comes with diluted apple juice, so your kids can enjoy their own fun drink without the afternoon sugar crash.

Candid Coffee Co.

Yes, we are sending you back to Wellington, but for good reason. Candid Coffee Co. is an adorable coffee shop that has partnered with Anna Bakes, offering not only a great cup of coffee, but some of the best pastries in the area as well. The bright decor draws customers in and if you do choose to sit and enjoy your treats, the owners have added a small play kitchen and some toys to keep your kids busy. Plus, Candid is always tailoring their menu to the little ones – this summer, they offered free kids’ lattes and mini cupcakes with the purchase of a menu item. Anna Bakes has also recently started hosting kids baking classes at Candid (expect the next one around Halloween), which is a perfect way to bond with your little ones and enjoy their pastries at the same time.
