As the next installment in our series celebrating female business owners, we talked to Romi Tavola and Claudia Moline of Mora Girls, the boho clothing brand that embodies a free spirit lifestyle. Despite the brand’s breezy vibe, it still comes with all the hardships of being a business owner. Romi and Claudia shared a peek into how they’ve made it work, while still maintaining the adventurous nature of the brand.
Atlantic Current: What does being a female entrepreneur mean to you?
Romi: I believe it is a bit harder to start a business as a female, but being in the fashion industry, making bikinis and women’s clothing made it so much easier, we felt right at home doing what we love doing. We really carry this inside of us, it is a passion, it comes out naturally. There is a need to create at all times, and ideas and inspirations can come from everywhere.
AC: How do you overcome obstacles in your business?
R: There are always obstacles in every aspect of life, you just need to push forward and face the problems, we always do everything the best way we know… sometimes it can get overwhelming, but you need to remind yourself to stay focused and everything will fall into place.
AC: What would you tell your younger self?
R: Try to find your passion, listen to yourself, and work hard to make your dreams reality, be patient, manifest, do everything with your heart. There is a big power in all these energies put together. Even though you may have a direction that you have planned to go in, don’t be afraid to venture into other avenues that present themselves.
AC: What advice would you give other women looking to start businesses?
R: Work hard, nothing comes very easy. You need to put in time and effort. Don’t give up; sometimes it may take a little time for things to start rolling.
Surround yourself with a great team; every person has some special skills. Finding the right team is essential.
AC: What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced in your industry?
R: Keeping up with the trends, trying to stay focused on our style and essence following all the changes in fashion. We, all clothing brand owners, need to have our personalities, following trends but keeping our DNA. That is what makes us unique.
AC: What have been some of your proudest moments as a business owner?
R: Our annual year end party where we celebrate our successes with all the people who have made it possible: our staff, our vendors and our community.
Making Mora a name that people recognize and love. That is the best thing that can happen to us, feeling the love from our community and the support.
