Get Down to Live Music

By David Rolland

Lantana and Lake Worth represent the towns starting with the letter L quite well when it comes to hosting live music. The Palm Beach County municipalities have plenty of diverse options for those looking to catch a show. Here’s our Atlantic Current round-up of where to enjoy live music in both Lantana and Lake Worth.

Matthews Brewing Co.

Since their inception in 2016, Matthews Brewing Co. has sought to provide live music with local craft beer in a beer garden setting. They added an elevated stage with a sound and lighting system and a tiki hut was installed to cover the stage, creating a breezy, South Florida vibe. Musical genres include rock, ska/reggae and pop country with local bands like Spred The Dub, The People Upstairs, Sons of a Tradesman, Artikal Sound System, 56 Ace Band, Project X, and Krazy Train having graced their stage.

Old Key Lime House

Somehow Old Key Lime House has been operating all the way since 1889, making it the oldest waterfront restaurant in the state of Florida. They also feature live music a few nights a week showcasing cover bands and original music. A recent week in December showcased local artists like Giaco, Chase Stiles, King Tide Rising, Girlfriend Material, and Leafy Greens serenading diners feet from the balmy sea.

The Hive

The waterfront tiki bar on the shores of Lake Osborne has a full-service bar with a daily happy hour. You can enjoy the view of the water as you bounce along to the cover bands that often soundtrack the tiki atmosphere. They’re open seven days a week at 10:30 a.m. They close at midnight Tuesday through Saturday nights, while getting you home a little early Sunday and Monday nights at 10 p.m.

The Library

The speakeasy located inside Lilo’s Street Food, is a classy little secret for Lake Worth music lovers. The spot specializes in craft cocktails, but also has a democratic attitude towards music with a variety of open mic theme nights. In 2023, they had open turntables where you could have your 15 minutes of fame DJ’ing as long as you brought your own vinyl. They also hosted their own tiny gear concert where anyone could take the stage to play music with a couple of limitations on the amount of gear you could use.

Propaganda

This Lake Worth staple has been spotlighting local and national music acts for close to 15 years. They look to have a busy and eclectic 2024, starting the New Year with a variety of genres including the charmingly named Piss On Christ, Killed by Florida, Shehehe, Shakers, and Goat Rope. Jan. 19 and 20 Propaganda will host the Winter Goth Celebration that will feature 8 different Goth bands and finally Feb. 24 will feature The Ramones cover band, Morones.

Bamboo Room

This Lake Worth favorite has plenty of music memorabilia on its walls and plenty of tunes ricocheting off its stage. You can treat it like a museum staring at all the guitars on exhibition or getting lost in the collection of vintage records and concert posters framed on the wall. Or you can focus on the musicians on stage. Friday nights focus on R&B with live cover bands and DJ’s playing the hip-hop hits from yesteryear, but most nights you can count on hearing the blues.
