SWEATY RECS FROM THE DESK IN THE CORNER OFFICE

By Darien Davies

Community helps keep us on track, whether that be one jogging partner or a few friends who regularly meet for the 7 a.m. class. Or, maybe it’s the gym owner who is just literally fired up about reps, about your goals, and about your health and wellness. If you’re focusing on sweating and shredding this year, we’ve done the heavy lifting for you (pun intended) and want to share two local gyms whose owners are waiting to pump you up on fitness.

Requirements for inclusion in this feature included passing the arbitrary gym vibe check by our Publisher, Dustin, and being named Rob. Just kidding. But really, we decided to highlight these two local gyms because we believe they’re going above and beyond for their clients and deserve to have their accomplishments celebrated.

PIT Fitness

If you’re currently at a gym but aren’t happy about your experience and/or results, or you are trying to find a place that speaks to you and your goals, PIT (Progressive Interval Training) Fitness has you covered. Actually, it’s not a gym or a place, it’s a community of fitness professionals who are dedicated to helping you reach your gain goals.

According to Rob Rosinsky, PIT Fitness founder, “PIT Fitness is a High-Intensity Interval Strength Training facility with programs geared towards burning fat and building muscle in a motivating atmosphere and community. But the easiest way to describe PIT Fitness is you are getting a personal trainer at the affordability of group pricing. The classes are designed for all fitness levels and are programmed to help you train at your highest potential.”

The PIT gym is a labor of love by Rob, built on lessons he collected in his own fitness journey. “I spent a lot of my early years in the fitness industry helping others open gyms, some national franchises, and some private ones, but I always felt like I could offer members something a little different. The early days were rough, but I look back now and can appreciate them so much more,” Rob said.

So, if you’re looking for a gym where you can hide away on a treadmill or check your phone while stretching, this isn’t going to be it. PIT is the place where you go when you want to better your body as well as your outlook on fitness.

“We preach consistency to keep our members motivated. One of our slogans is ConsistentAF because, without consistency and discipline, it doesn’t matter how motivated you are. No one is motivated every single day but showing up on the days you aren’t motivated are the ones that count the most,” said Rob. “We established a Consistency Club that rewards members for attending at least four classes per week each month. We also like to use weekly and monthly challenges to ignite a little friendly competition. Competition always seems to keep people motivated.”

Rob said that through their tailored efforts, they are able to help clients see results in weeks and not months or years. Additionally, they scale their workouts for all fitness levels so there’s no limit to whom they can help.

“The most unique thing about PIT Fitness is how not unique we are. We really stick to the basics and want to make sure every single member is getting the best workout possible in that 1-hour period,” said Rob, who is happy to help clients comfortably leave their comfort workout zone. “We aren’t flashy or trying to change the wheel, but our main priority is to make sure each member leaves knowing they just had an amazing workout.”

Rob is certain that his coaches are the key to their clients’ success, as well as to PIT’s growth location-wise. He believes that the majority of coaching a group class is personality, so he focuses on finding coaches who can truly connect with their community.

“The most rewarding aspect is knowing that I have created a platform that is helping people change their body, lifestyle, mental health, and physical health,” Rob said. “I always wanted to create a space where anyone could come, have an amazing workout, and get the best results of their life. Knowing we are helping people in so many different ways on a daily basis is what really keeps me going.”

CrossFit HYPE

Fueled by a passion to physically progress himself and his community, Rob Thomas has created and kept CrossFit HYPE alive and pumping since 2013. After he experienced mistreatment from a local CrossFit gym on multiple occasions in East Boca, and knowing that others were getting the same level of service, he decided to “bury them” and make it better. And by “it,” he means the environment, experience, community, and result.

“It was an absolute grind living up to my word, but I love it. Doing things the right way. Fitness first, over everything,” Rob said. “Not pushing supplements, knick-knacks, or some BS training program… real fitness. Making decisions that benefit the community first to enable us to grow. It didn’t always make us money at first, but it allowed us to become who we are now.”

In fact, he’s so dedicated to his HYPE community that he took home $0 in income for six years. On top of that, he learned how to build a website, make a logo, fix and build everything himself, design/print/sell his own merchandise, make his own videos, create his fitness programs, coach classes, and manage internal business logistics.

That’s dedication at its finest, folks. But, for Rob, that’s just him. He’s never had a drink in his life because, he says, “I know it doesn’t help me achieve my tomorrow, so I don’t do it today.” This outlook helped him align with Temperance Training, which kind of just happened, but turned out to be something that was always meant to be a perfect marriage.

“Seven years ago, out of nowhere, I was introduced to this exact same mentality, from people of an exact opposite walk of life… people who shared the same exact mindset as me, just toward their sobriety, and I saw the life it was now giving them,” Rob said. “Fitness mixed with a temperate lifestyle, and an incredibly supportive community, is special… that is exactly what temperance training is. I have met some of my best friends from our temperance programs, and seen some of the most incredible transformations happen. For this reason I am invested in finding more people just like me, and just like us so that is why Temperance exists.”

After four location changes, he is now in his more permanent home (the location of the aforementioned gym where this all started!) and is hopeful for the future. He believes he’s in the right location to continue to grow and help his CrossFit community thrive.

“I get to help people change their lives. I get to help people feel better about themselves, and improve themselves, every single day. I get to work on my own athletic progress, and sense of self, every single day. I get to hang out, work, and workout with my friends every day. I get to learn something from trial and error, and teach people about my findings,” Rob said. “I can lead the way in the right direction for where people should go if they want to get fit and grow their abilities to do difficult things. I get to challenge myself, and those around me, every single day. After many years I am able to provide for my family and friends in a way I never thought possible.”

He also knows that while CrossFit might be intimidating, there’s no reason to let it be. Just go in, ask for help, and try it. The community is welcoming and, he believes, might even help you change your life.

“Our main goal from the beginning was to constantly be in pursuit of creating the fittest community on Earth. Not the fittest one individual, but the fittest group of people. Just an incredible wealth of resources and abilities all in one place. That long-term goal is never ending, as we have achieved the fittest gym in Florida a few years in a row, and plan to continue to keep that title,” Rob said. “But by pursuing that goal, it gives us so many more opportunities to impact more people, I will just stay on that path. We keep focusing on helping others achieve those goals with our proven methods, more good will come to us. Working to create a facility that facilitates people who want to be the fittest version of themselves… and that’s it. That is what we do. Create fitness.”
