A Chronicle of Scott Johnson and His Experience Crossing for Cystic Fibrosis
Piper’s Angels Foundation and MGW Productions are releasing “Double Or Nothing,” a short film about resiliency and strength of the human spirit, on Thursday, Feb. 1 at Cinepolis in Jupiter.
The film follows Scott Johnson, a double lung transplant recipient born with cystic fibrosis, as he completes the daring 80-mile paddle that is The Crossing for Cystic Fibrosis. Scott was the first double lung transplant recipient to complete an Ironman, but that didn’t stop him from continuing to surpass seemingly impossible odds by completing The Crossing.
The Crossing is, of course, a physical conquest, but also a tremendous test of the wills. “We believe in the transformative power of storytelling, and ‘Double Or Nothing’ is a testament to the strength of the human spirit,” said Travis Suit, Producer of “Double Or Nothing”/Executive Director at Piper’s Angels Foundation. The feat doesn’t only test a paddler, however, it also raises awareness and funds for the cystic fibrosis community.
“Scott’s journey is not just a story of personal triumph; it’s a rallying cry for everyone facing adversity. We are excited to bring this powerful narrative to the big screen and share it with our community,” said Travis.
Piper’s Angels approached Melbourne local Makayla Wheeler of MGW Productions to carry out this project. Makayla’s specialties include aerial and underwater photography and videography. MGW has worked with companies like Hurley, Ron Jon Surf Shop, and more.
“When Travis Suit and the Piper’s Angels Foundation came to me with the concept, one of the things I felt strongly about in the making of ‘Double Or Nothing’ was that I wanted this film to inspire hope and give a clear riveting picture of what it looks like to give life your all,” said Makayla. “I choose to take Scott’s journey with the Crossing for Cystic Fibrosis and use it as the framework both visually and symbolically to tell Scott’s larger life story and journey.”
The premier event will be a night of inspiration and triumph, coupled with a red carpet and a Q&A with Scott and Makayla.
