Tucker Duke’s Lunchbox
1101 S. Powerline Rd., Deerfield Beach
You haven’t had a burger until you’ve had a Tucker Duke’s Lunchbox burger, the specialty created by celebrity chef Brian Cartenuto, a winner of Food Network Star’s “Cutthroat Kitchen.” These massive towers of meat and toppings will require some elbow grease and an industrial-strength napkin, but isn’t that the way it’s supposed to be? Although the menu sports a dozen selections, everything from herb-roasted turkey to a meat-free chickpea number, The Tucker Duke is the only way to go, 100 percent Florida-raised Black Angus beef seared to perfection, and wrangled into the restaurant’s own onion-encrusted bun. It’s also the only way you’ll be able to get a taste of the Cartenuto’s fresh-fried onion rings (really, you can’t order them unless it’s on this burger) which are smothered with American cheese and layered with lettuce and tomato. It’s finished with Cartenuto’s famous Tucker sauce, his version of the South’s famous Comeback sauce, that all-star combination of mayo and ketchup — dressed up with a few secret ingredients. One tip: don’t ask for any alterations. Special orders are strictly prohibited here. Sorry, but it’s take it or leave it — and we’re betting you’ll take it just the way it is.
