This past Saturday, Papa’s Raw Bar welcomed Spring with their first annual “Hop Before You Crawl” Pub Crawl. Eliminating the daunting and potentially dangerous aspect of traveling, all the crawling you had to do was within their own territory.
Over 25 different breweries, local and out of state, set up a booth and issued a few select beers in 4 oz plastic cups. For $40 guests could take a journey through the craft beer world with all the accessibility to the actual restaurants as well, including Seafood World. It was a high-energy event, with live Music from Bamboo Taxi and a pop up shop featuring art work from a few employees. Each rep had their own kegs, exceeding my expectations in accordance with my palate. For the out of state Breweries, Educated Employees manned the stations, pouring the beer out of bottles whilst providing the need-to-know basics of the beer and the event.
Each representative of the beer company was well prepared to give a dissertation of the company, the beer at hand, and where it could be acquired—many right at Papa’s Raw Bar. I was pleasantly surprised to see so many Florida Native Breweries present (including ones I had never heard of) such as Biscayne Brewery in Miami, Khoffner off Sunrise, as well as ones’ I’m familiar with like, Cigar City in Tampa, 26 Degrees in Pompano, and Funky Buddha off Oakland. Albeit, that barely scratches the surface of the extensive craft breweries on display.
With the perpetuation of Craft Beer only growing with the years, Papa’s gave the community a notably informative and lively opportunity to learn and grow with the times. Having spoken to Troy Ganter, owner of Papa’s Raw Bar, he expressed the desire to move next years’ event to the Pompano Amphitheater with live music by the local legends, Uproot Hootenanny.
