SunFest 2023 with a Side of Guac in West Palm Beach

By Rachel Levy

With the turn of May comes a South Florida classic: SunFest. Each year since 1982, this waterfront festival has been a tradition that has only ever gotten better with age. This year, however, the first day of the big festival is sharing the limelight with Cinco de Mayo. If you’re both a music-lover and a taco-lover, worry not. We’ve collected a few spots around West Palm Beach where you can head in-between sets (re-entry is permitted, and as far as Atlantic Current is concerned: encouraged).

Tacos and Hip Hop @ Zipitios

From 6 p.m. to 12 a.m., Tacos & Hip-Hop will be serving up fresh food and fresh beats at Zipitios. With four different DJs in the line-up (Selecta, Ddubz, DJ Judy, and Grhymes) and Zipitios’ consistently delicious menu, this is one event that you won’t want to miss if you’re looking to keep the music going after SunFest 2023 ends for the day. Plus, nothing will sooth that appetite better than offerings like fresh guacamole and nachos.

Avocado Cantina

Starting at 5 p.m. Avocado Cantina is opening for their special Cinco de Mayo celebration. Drink specials all through the night is certainly enough reason to stop by, but performances by Kozmo Koz and the Mojito Latin Band will truly seal the deal when it comes to convincing you to stay all night long. Added to the usual floor-to-ceiling murals and generally boho-chic decor will be a pop-up taco stand where they’ll be selling their ever-popular tacos. Don’t miss the buzz on this one, head to Avocado Cantina on your way home from West Palm for a healthy dose of tequila, tacos, and, of course, music.

El Camino

With locations in Delray Beach, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm, El Camino is quickly becoming a go-to for South Floridians when it comes to taco Tuesdays each week. Known for their tequila bar and Mexican soul food, this Cinco de Mayo they’re bringing their A-game with street games, a photo booth, face painting, live bands, and (who would’ve doubted it?) dancing. After the long day at SunFest 2023, you’ll want to head over to El Camino for a refreshing margarita and taco before getting back out on the dance floor as the mariachi band keeps the good vibes going.

E.R. Bradley’s

From Impossible Vegan Tacos to Smoked Pork Tacos, E.R. Bradley’s keeps things fun and fresh with their usual menu. However, for SunFest 2023 they have a full three-day lineup that will have you coming in for more than just the usual bite to eat. From tequila specials to DJs, they have different themes, specials, and music from Friday to Sunday. That’ll give you plenty of reason to keep coming back. On Saturday and Sunday the DJs go on starting at 1 p.m. and on Friday there’s a JaJa Tequila Photo Booth that will make for some really incredible moments from the weekend and a killer Cinco de Mayo.
