All Hail The Mocktails

By Darien Davies

Let’s be real. We gave our livers the run for their money this holiday season. Between the holiday work parties and the happy hours with friends, we seriously popped the top bringing 2022 to a close. Not that there’s anything wrong with that — 2022 deserved it. But now that we’re rounding out another year, it might be a good idea to take a step back and not be the conductor on the ABV Express. If you’re looking for something more impressive than water, head to these local jaunts and kick back a carefree mocktail.

Mood

Zero proof, 100% flavor. This plant-based bistro is not only dishing out innovative and creative Earth-friendly dishes, they’re also shaking up some of the best alcohol-free cocktails in town. They offer CBD-infused tea and sparkling water if you want to take it down a notch, as well as specialty mocktails like Spice, made with Seedlip 94, pineapple juice, cream of coconut and butterfly pea flower, and Fresh, made with Seedlip 42, house strawberry syrup, watermelon juice and lime.

Kapow!

Per usual, Kapow! delivers their version of chak-tails (alcohol-free mocktails to align the chakras) pow, right to the kisser. The Solar Plexus will make you rethink everything you thought you knew about non-alcoholic drinks, and you’ll actually even look super cool drinking it. Made with citrus, smoke, refreshing Kokuto pineapple shrub, Dugan & Dame Smoke’n Flowers Tonic, rosemary and bubbles, it’s the sexy antithesis of boring ol’ water.

Elisabetta’s

Sure, Italian food does scream red wine and martinis, but when you’re more in the mood for the food and less in the mood for the buzz, Elisabetta’s still has you covered. The Cherry-Basil Smash, made with Michigan Orchard Cherries, agave nectar, local citrus juice and fresh basil is refreshing and perfectly sweet, and the Limonata Fresca, made with fresh citrus juice and agave nectar, will definitely put the punchy pep in your step.
